JOB SUMMARY

Under direction, leads, oversees, and participates in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for performing various duties in establishing, promoting, and maintaining security for the residents, associates, and visitors of the Village. Protects residents, associates, property, and investigates various incidents and crimes. Performs a wide variety of specialized clerical duties involved in the preparation, maintenance, and release of materials related to public safety security activities; and performs various technical and administrative tasks related to assigned areas of responsibility. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations.  Completes training as required by policy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs QA/QI on incident reports and prepares QA/AI reports for administrative staff.
  • Investigates incidents and complaints, reporting findings to administrative staff.
  • Schedules, assigns and reviews work assignments.
  • Provides training to new associates as well as ongoing training to new and current associates.
  • Assures reports and daily duties are done correctly and in a timely manner.
  • May fill in for a Public Safety Associate or EMT.
  • Available for staffing and emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • Supervises the maintenance and use of security equipment
  • Provides guidance in unusual situations or emergencies.
  • Monitors job performance and responds appropriately
  • Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
  • Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.

The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job.  Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs.  The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Education: 

  • This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED. Post high school education is helpful.

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Current EMT-B (or obtained within one year of employment)
  • Advanced First Aid (Lifeguard First Aide with oxygen) and/or First Responder Training certificate required at time of hire
  • Missouri Class E driver’s license or equivalent
  • CPR (healthcare provider equivalent) required within 90 days of hire

Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):

  • Security or law enforcement experience with advanced responsibility required
  • Intermediate level keyboarding skills required.
  • One year of leadership experience required.
  • Must maintain CEU hours required by current EMT and CPR certifications.
  • Experience with investigations of incidents and conflicts.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to residents, clients, and other associates of the organization.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The associate is subject to both environmental conditions: 
  • Activities occur inside and outside.
  • All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Very Heavy Work – Exerting  in excess of 100 lbs of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50lbs of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs of force constantly to move objects
  • The associate is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.  Body agility is emphasized. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. 
  • May need to stoop/bend, kneel, crawl, reach.
  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
  • May need to push, pull, lift with regular or repetitive motion.
  • May need to pick up, pinch, type with fingers, grasp with fingers and palm.
  • May need to feel attributes of an object such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; those activities where detailed or important spoken instructions must be conveyed to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and having the ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and making fine discriminations in sound.
  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
