Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am to 4:30pm
Salary Range: Starting at $16/hr and up depending on verifiable experience.
Qualifications
- High school diploma
- One year experience as a professional painter or two to three years of experience as a painter helper.
- Knowledge in the proper use of equipment/supplies, paint types, and their use and application.
- Knowledge in stripping and finishing techniques.
- Must possess a driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Job Duties
The Painter applies paint, varnish, and/or stains to interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures of the facility. Creates smooth surfaces, removes old paint and prepares surfaces for painting. Fills holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster or filler. Selects premixed paints or prepares paint to match specified colors. May perform the following: paint signs, equipment, float and tape new walls, paper walls. Will use paint brushes, rollers, scrapers, sandpaper and spray gun. Serves on the emergency and fire response teams. Performs other duties assigned by Plant Services management according to policies, procedures and the mission of St. James Place.
Surface preparation, application, and detailing
- Cleans/washes surfaces, removing soil, wax, paint, wallpaper etc. with appropriate substances and equipment.
- Fills holes, cracks and joints with appropriate filler; smoothes to a uniform surface as necessary for intended finish.
- Selects appropriate materials needed to apply finish, including paints, primers, sizings, and solvents.
- Covers adjacent surfaces and room furnishings to protect from splashes, spills, etc.
- Applies finishes to surfaces, using selected materials and in accord with manufacturer’s instructions
- Performs detailing (including caulking, cleaning and reinstalling cover plates, room furnishings, wall mounted items and pictures).
Maintains highest level of safety standards possible at all times
- Utilizes, eye, ear and respiratory protection when the work environment merits.
- Maintains the highest level of safety possible during all demolition / construction activities.
- Uses and maintains materials and equipment in such a manner as to prevent damage to building, equipment and self.
- Ensures access to assignment area is sufficiently restricted to prevent injury to others.
Materials Management
- Prepares requisitions for materials as needed to perform duties.
- Stores and/or disposes of excess materials and substances in designated locations and in accordance with department procedures.
Work Hours
- May require working long hours or hours outside of the normal work week.
- Required to participate in the departmental on-call schedule.
- May be required to work weekends or holidays.
- Ability to run company errands.
- MAY BE DESIGNATED ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL IN THE EVENT OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, INCLUDING HURRICANES, EVACUATION, FIRE, FLOOD, ETC., AND BE REQUIRED TO REMAIN ON CAMPUS FOR THE DURATION OF THE EMERGENCY.
Physical Requirement: Ability to stand for extended amount of time, lift more than 30lbs utilizing proper body mechanics, frequent bending and stooping, and work in both inside and outside environments.
