The Health Care Activities and Recreation Coordinator will create, develop and provide an evolving person-centered recreation, social and leisure program that is purpose driven and provides meaningful social interactions and engagement that helps each resident feel challenged and a sense of belonging to the Health Care community.   

Responsibilities

    • Must prepare on a monthly, and then weekly basis, an activities schedule for all levels of abilities and post schedule on each floor of Health Care. Maintain internal Bulletin Boards on each floor.
    • Purchase, assemble, organize and store all materials for activities and communicate to associates location of supplies for their use. 
    • Assess each resident with input from the resident, their family members, as appropriate, and other associates of WCBR to develop a story of their life reflecting preferences for grooming, personal care, daily life, routines, habits, annoyances, recreational interests, major life events and the make-up of the family especially as cognitive changes are identified.
    • Recruit, provide orientation/training and organize/scheduling of volunteers to supplement and enlarge the activities program.
    • Responsible for ensuring that the residence environment reflects the appropriate seasonal décor.
    • Attend and participate in Care Plan Meetings including updating the ISP.
    • Track each resident’s attendance and participation in social, leisure and recreation opportunities of engagement.

Qualifications

    • Ability to develop and deliver presentations.
    • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Often requires computer responsibility which involves extensive use of keyboard, mouse and monitor, copier/printer.
    • Ability to lift or carry up to 30 pounds without assistance, 31+ with manual or mechanical assistance.
    • Ability to push or pull up to 50 lbs.

Requirements

    • High School diploma or equivalent
    • Certification as a Recreation Therapist (CTRS) preferred.
    • Minimum of three years’ previous experience in recreation therapy with seniors required with previous supervisory preferred.
    • Training and experience with electronic documentation.
    • MDS and Care plan experience.
